A name that stands out from the many new jewellers on the scene: Belgian designer Alice Van Cal did not train as a jeweller but spent many hours at Cartier watching how it’s done and now launches her own range of beautiful, practical, transformable pieces. Rainbow-bright pendants suspend from studs, singly or in pairs, but - courtesy of an opening back and some nifty fitments - can attach to a chain that makes a multi-length necklace, a bracelet or a hand ornament. Those Princess-cut emerald or yellow sapphire and diamond bracelets are statement pieces too. A more than good start.
